48 Tips on raising Children in Islam for parents

In Islam, every mother and father is responsible in raising their children to be modest, beautiful and have good ahlak(manners and attitude) towards others. Here are some tips and advice for parents in raising their kids:

  1. Praise your child in front of others.
  2. Don’t make him/her criticise himself
  3. Tell him/her (Please) & (Thank you).
  4. Treat him/her as a child, and let him live his/her childhood.
  5. Assist him/her to make decisions
  6. Teach him/her how to swim
  7. Consider him/her a guest of honour in one of the occasions
  8. Ask him/her for his opinion and take his/her advice on some matter
  9. Dedicate/Assign a corner for his/her work and write his name on his/her achievements.
  10. Assist him/her to make friends. Children these days do not know how to choose friends
  11. Make him/her feel important and that ALLAH has given him/her certain capabilities
  12. Teach him/her to pray with you and instill in him/her the principles of Iman (faith in ALLAH)
  13. Teach him/her the skills of expressing his/her opinions and presenting them to others
  14. Teach him/her how to read instructions and follow them
  15. Teach him/her how to set principles and duties for himself/herself and follow them
  16. Teach him/her First Aid skills
  17. Answer all his/her questions
  18. Keep your promise(s) to him/her
  19. Teach him/her simple cooking skills (e.g. boiling eggs, frying potatoes, warming bread etc).
  20. Teach him/her the Importance and the Power of Baraka and supplication
  21. Teach him/her how to work within a team
  22. Encourage him/her to ask questions
  23. Make him/her feel he is important among his friends
  24. Explain to him/her the reason for any decision you take
  25. Be with him/her on the first day of school
  26. Tell him/her stories from your childhood
  27. Make your child play the role of the teacher and you the role of the student
  28. Educate your child how he/she can be found if he gets lost
  29. Teach him/her how to say (No) to wrong doings/things
  30. Teach him/her to grant and give to others
  31. Give him/her enough money to take/make proper action when/if needed
  32. Encourage him/her to memorize and recall
  33. Teach him/her to defend himself
  34. Answer his/her queries and doubts (about himself)
  35. Do not threaten him/her at all
  36. Teach him/her how to face failure
  37. Teach him/her how to invest his money
  38. Try something new for him/her and you with the results known in advance
  39. Teach him/her how to mend his things and keep them tidy
  40. Share his/her dreams and aspirations and encourage him/her to have them
  41. Teach him/her about differences between male and female in the light of the Holy Quran
  42. Teach him/her the good values and principles
  43. Teach him/her to be responsible for his/her actions
  44. Praise his/her works and achievements and teach him/her to write them down
  45. Teach him/her how to deal with pets
  46. Apologize to him/her for your real mistakes
  47. Make one day of the week a day of surprises to him/her
  48. Encourage him/her to read the Holy Quran daily
