It is Sunnah to use miswak before and after sleep. Ibni Abbas (r.a) had spent the night in the presence of Rasulullah (saw_. He informed us of our Prophet’s usage of sewak and his performance of wuzu before and after sleep. To sleep upon the right towards kiblah is mustehabb. The most appropriate way to sleep is to lay your palm beneath your cheek and recite the name of Allah till you fall asleep. Hz. Aisha (r.a) narrated as follows:

“Every night while going into bed, our Prophet (saw) always brought his hands together, blew into it and read the surahs of Fatiha and Nas. He would then wipe his body 3 times with the best of his ability, starting from his head, his face and then the rest of his body.”

Our Prophet (saw) declares:

“When the last two ayahs of the surah of Bakaara (Amenerrasulu) are read every night, those two ayahs are utterly sufficient for the reader.”

A brief analysis of Sultan Abdulaziz

Sultan Abdulaziz Khan was a sultan of extreme respect towards our Prophet (saw). Whenever he received a letter from Madinah, he always replenished his ablution and said “These contain the dusts of Madinah” while kissing and holding it to his forehead before giving it to his chief secretary to read.

One day while ill in bed a request letter had arrived from the mujaavirs of Madinah (individuals who spend their time worshipping in Haremi Shareef). The Sultan’s immediate response was: “Help me stand up immediately! I want to listen to the requests of Haremeyn standing up. The requests of Rasulullah’s neighbours cannot be listened to while stretching my legs!”
