If we seek solace and peace in the sounds of nature and in our houses of worship, what happens to us the rest of the time when we are bombarded by sound at every turn? It seems like no matter where we are these days, it is impossible to escape the sound of traffic, sirens, the phone ringing… just the din of everyday life, which has become louder and more pervasive than ever. How is this new world of ceaseless sound affecting our bodies and our minds?

We invite you to embark on a journey with us to explore some fascinating perspectives that shed a light on our relationship with sound and music.
Dr. Jeffrey Thompson, the Founder and Director of the Center for Neuroacoustic Research in California (www.neuroacoustic.com), is recognized as a worldwide expert in the field of acoustic pacing frequencies that are incorporated into musical sound tracks. A consummate musician and composer in his own right, he has established a method for using modulated sound-pulses that change states of consciousness for optimal “Mind-Body” healing. Dr. Thompson believes that the sounds in nature resonate with us because they take us back to the beginning of our journey and our primary senses.

Matter&Beyond: Why are sound and music so central for us, both culturally and personally?
I don’t think I’ve found a single culture on earth which at some point hasn’t used sound as a prominent technique in healing, in religious rites, or as a means of attaining a change of consciousness in one way or another. I think the tradition probably dates back to the first use of sound as a soothing or healing means for mothers; that is lullabies for babies.

M&B: Is this our earliest experience with sound? Is this what you call primordial sounds?
If you go back to before the lullabies, we’re talking about womb experiences and it’s one of the primal things we all share; this is what I call primordial sounds. Certain type of sounds have the same influence on anyone who hears it, no matter what age you are, what sex you are, what culture you were brought up in, what language you speak; womb sounds fit that criteria.

M&B: Why is it sound, but not the vision?
Because at 16 weeks, when the fetus is very small, the nervous system is developed enough that all the senses are functioning; however it is dark, so the eyes aren’t working, no information is being received and the nose and the mouth are filled with fluids, so there is no tasting or smelling, but sound travels through water five times better than it does through air; therefore the ears are working but amplified by five times, and the largest sense organ we have, the skin, is a huge sense organ for vibrations. Thus, we’re experiencing vibration and sound for nine months in the womb and that sound environment is a very specific type of environment; the amniotic fluid sounds, the watery bubbly sounds, the mother’s heartbeat through the placental artery, respiratory sounds from the diaphragm, noises of the internal organ; it’s a rich complex, three-dimensional sound environment that is exactly the same for everyone of us; we all experienced this in the same way.

M&B: How does the fetus perceive this sound?
Remember the fetus is small and the ear is small; the eardrum is extremely small. If the eardrum was blown up to the size of my eardrum and the mother’s heart was blown up in proportion it would fill this room. So what kind of sound would such a heart make? It wouldn’t be the sound that you would expect it to be listening to the adult’s heart with a stethoscope from the outside; it would be a very large, slow sound, a large thumping sound.

M&B: How is this related to the use of sound in therapy or for relaxation?
Most of us who have gone on vacations and have explored nature feel a peaceful, beautiful return to nature; why?
Because if you take the sounds of the amniotic fluid and you slow those sounds down, they sound a lot like the ocean. The size of the sound waves compared to the eardrum would make these watery sounds sound like they have also slowed down. So many of the watery sounds in the womb sound like other sounds that we can hear later in nature. This can spark a similar kind of primordial recognition which is beyond the control of the rational thinking mind.

So when we build up these kinds of sounds on a soundtrack you can then push the button and the body will automatically go back to what it felt like to have a natural experience; when we combine the sounds of nature with music this makes a relaxation tape. So I would say that the sounds of nature provide secondary primordial sounds, as not all of us would have heard the same natural sounds in our lives.

The idea is to extend the power of the primordial recognizable components of sound in order to create a physical response. The technique is to connect with a primal recognition at a subconscious level; this will tap into experiences that you have had in the womb and at other times.

M&B: You not only use sound for relaxation, but also in order to combat stress. Could you please talk about this?
When a person has a fight-or-flight response, a stress response, we know very precisely what happens physiologically. The very first thing, the most sensitive organ, to respond to stress is the heart and thus when we look at the heart waves we can gain important information.

M&B: Why the heart and not the brain?
The reason for this is that the heart is the perfect system in the nervous system; it is called the autonomic nervous system or the automatic functioning nervous system; it knows how to organize and control my organs and glands and body chemistry and perform biomechanics that I’m not aware of and can’t control.

My rational-thinking brain can control physical body movements and thinking processes, but there’s another section that controls the automatic functioning of how my body runs. There is another control of this autonomic nervous system, which has two large branches of nerves that innervate all the organs and glands; these two branches of the nerves are the sympathetic and the parasympathetic nervous system.

While the sympathetic nervous system switches on, the parasympathetic switches off and mobilizes energy from the higher brain centers, from my digestive system, from my elimination system and from my immune system, it pulls that energy into my muscles to fight for my life.

This is when the brain freezes when you take an exam. You’re frightened about the exam; it is your final exam and you’re frightened that you’re not going to pass it or that you’re not going to do well. That fright causes the sympathetic system to switch on and drain the energy out of your brain; this is a self-fulfilling prophecy. You don’t have a brain left, because all the energy has gone to your muscles. At the moment the sympathetic system switches on, it mobilizes the pituitary which signals the adrenal glands; these fires adrenaline, the adrenaline starts the heart and the respiration and a number of other things. At the same time it suppresses the pancreas and lets loose extra glucose so you can fight for your life more and so what you end up with is the very first thing that happens.

M&B: What is the normal stress response and how do we return to a normal state?
When a person is required to carry out special tasks, like running or fighting for one’s life, then the sympathetic nervous system has to switch on, mobilize the energy from various places and send it to my muscles. If I am injured, but I survive and win, then the parasympathetic system is going to switch on and build up; that energy will be sent to my immune system, healing centers and recuperation areas for my muscles; when this is finished these are basically switched off, because we don’t need this energy anymore. This is certainly the normal way of functioning.

Thus, there are certain normal ways in which the body should function when a person is okay and normal. When the patient comes in and lies down on their back we hook them up and look at what’s happening in the autonomic nervous system. Normally when you lay down for three to five minutes your system should relax. Gravity isn’t affecting you, your heart doesn’t have to do extra work to pump the blood up to your brain; as a result the muscles relax and the sympathetic system and parasympathetic nervous systems should be at a level playing field. Now they can conserve their energy and this state of balance in the autonomic nervous system is known as homeostasis. The best state of health you can have is in homeostasis, where you’re not using energy in an unnecessary way. Homeo means unity, one, within my body, while stasis is a perfect state of rest.

M&B: What are the results of your studies to date? How many of us return back to homeostasis in three to five minutes?
Clinically what I see is maybe two patients with a normal response; I’ve been checking every patient with the real time heart rate variability system now for 7 years. This means thousands of patients; in all of that time I have seen one, maybe two patients with a normal response. I hook the patient up, and see what the response is. Most people’s response is abnormal; what this abnormality says is that after five minutes they have not attained a balance, and they have a good strong, healthy, dominant sympathetic stress response which never stops.

M&B: What do you think is the reason for this?
This state is constant because of the artificial, extremely stressful world that we have artificially created for ourselves. It wasn’t supposed to be like this; you are supposed to wake up in the morning and grab your spear and go catch a rabbit and that’s your workday; when you get there and you see that rabbit the sympathetic system turns on and the heart rates increase, the same thing happens with the rabbit, and it’s all going to be over in a couple of minutes. You’re going to catch the rabbit or he’s going to get away and then everything goes back, the clutch pushes in. Let’s say you get the rabbit, and the clutch pushes in; everything is fine and you are going to go home. Now you hear a growl behind you and there’s a saber tooth tiger looking at you, thinking about dinner; now the sympathetic system switches on, the heart rate is up, and you are running and he is running. It is all going to be over in a couple of minutes and either you are going to get away or you’re not.

But what I’m talking about here is that the nervous system, at its core, and its stress response are both designed for a sprint and not a marathon; but what we have had in the twenty-first century and throughout the twentieth century is a marathon of stress; but these are the kind of stresses that we can’t see, i.e. invisible stresses. They’re electromagnetic frequencies; the walls in this room, television channel frequencies, military frequencies, microwave frequencies, air pollution, food pollution and traffic jams when going to work to a job that doesn’t pay enough money for a boss who has the emotional development of a three-year old are all problems for us. The stress goes and then it’s back again; it’s time to get dinner for the kids and watching 7:00 news. This doesn’t stop; the nervous system’s solution to surviving this is to invent a mechanism of merely stepping on the gas, switching on the emergency sympathetic system on and bulldozing your way through the stress for the rest of your life with great momentum; but at nighttime, when it’s time to go to bed the nervous system doesn’t want to let go of this momentum that it has built up to get through the day.

M&B: And this has devastating effects on our health?
You can’t keep running in high gear for the rest of your life without some horrible consequences; the body’s not designed for it. You can only do this for a few decades before your heart or your brain blows up, the two biggest killers in Western society are heart attacks and strokes – there is also high blood pressure and diabetes. But what can we expect if our sympathetic nervous system is all the time working, which means by definition that our heart pressure is up and the pancreas is suppressed, so there is extra glucose being sent out? So people who don’t have the constitution to handle the stress blow a fuse; they have no way to handle the stress and as a result they have immune system problems, digestive problems, and problems that come from that colon cancer, irritable bowel syndrome, autoimmune diseases, allergies.

M&B: You are using sound in order to help people return to their normal healthy state. How does this work?
I’ve come up with a way to use sound to force the autonomic nervous system to push in the clutch, removing us from a place of high stress from which you can leave by using sound; we do this by using the heart-rate variability to see how bad the heart rate is and then explore various precisely tuned sound frequencies which will actually force the nervous system to push in the clutch. There will be a very specific tone for every person; this is like a glass vibrating if I sing the right note. An opera singer can sing the right note to make the glass vibrate. Well, now let’s imagine that your autonomic nervous system is the glass and we’re going to explore various sound frequencies that are very precisely tuned to find out which one affects your autonomic nervous system function; when we find it the response will be like pushing in the clutch and sending it into a state of relaxation. So we hit the right note and we get the response; this is what I’ve been looking for. Now we can see this phenomenon clinically. Once we’ve got the tone that’s associated with the pushing in of the clutch of the autonomic nervous system we can use that therapeutically through a specially designed sound table that I have made; this consists of low-frequency sound components which drive the low frequencies right into your cells via headphones. This relaxation mode is introduced to your nervous system over an extended period of time. We can burn this sound onto a CD and you can take it home and work with it at home on your stereo; it is like an internal training program. Every time your nervous system pushes in the clutch, the ability to push in the clutch grows, just like working a muscle in a gym.

This is a kind of high-tech stress reduction training program for the nervous system with sound. This is one of the three components I mentioned earlier; there are three parallel processes using sound for healing. This one is the idea of using the physical resonance to cause an effect on the nervous system to relax people.

M&B: This is what is called a sound table, right?
Yes, the sound table I needed had to have specific requirements, which is why I had to make my own to attain the exact clinical results I wanted. The power in the table actually delivered more power to your body than I wanted to be delivered. Therefore, I had to be able to have the sound that was coming from the table split into the right and left speakers, but none of those that were available on the market could do that. So I had to have it specially designed. As a composer, musician and audio engineer I was able to design the sounding board of that table and the transducers so that a lot of free sound could be delivered and spread out, therefore it is much more effective and delivers the sound to your body via headphones. Thus there is a lot going on in that table that you cannot see and this is what makes it work properly.

The inner dimension of existence, for those who are open to it, is never a fantasy, a dream, an illusion or a delirium, but instead a phenomenon and an inner system. It seems feasible only through such an inner dimension that the satisfactory explanation of our existence, the secret of our life, the reason of our creation, manifestation of our desires directed towards eternity and our thoughts related to all these points become plausible and acceptable and that our groundless fears and worries melt away. The inner dimension is the path of concise faith, the spiral of light which conveys divine knowledge to the pinnacles, the heavenly steed of love and ardent desire, and the call of heavenly attraction. Each believer’s view of the universe, the provisions of each soul en route to attaining this knowledge, each lover’s inner dynamism, and each person of truth’s inextinguishable zeal are always nourished from the expansive pool of that dimension. Souls and hearts that liberate their roots to such a source form such a metaphysical poetry with the emotions and thoughts that overflow from within, thanks to it, every single thing from microcosm to macrocosm coalesces in a lucid order and turns practically into a proper sentence with each word in its best place.

Just like it is unimaginable to be in love with anything without considering its reasons and motives, it is unlikely that everyone is receptive of inner dimension at all times. Some are born as receptive while some keep on developing this aptitude of theirs for a whole lifetime, then subsequent to a certain term, they attain a capacity large enough for encompassing space and time in their entirety. Such individuals lead their lives in an appetite for inner meaning and metaphysical profundity on an infinite scale and throughout the path they live as if their hunger is insatiable. Many others obtain material and corporeal phenomena to achieve fulfillment but time and again grow weary as this often turns into routine. However the ones with their spiritual lives that are transcendent above the boundaries of reality at full speed and with an endless yearning, walk on new paths, stop over at different places, associate each visited place with a wisdom in the real time context and in connection with the past and future stations; in search of divine knowledge, love and spiritual delight, they roam with incessant desire, just like lovers seeking each other, running from one horizon to another.

The created’s relationship of intense, ecstatic love and yearning with the Creator is for mortal and ephemeral beings the horizon of metamorphosis and becoming immortal by attaining a second existence via their essence. Considering a different perspective, such a relationship is a lover’s stripping of his or her existence and growing radiant and spiritual, thereby melting in the beloved’s existence and submitting altogether to His will. Having reached to such a spiritual culmination, each soul is purified to the extent of decency in the heart, even as it is a mere particle, it reaches a breadth huge enough to encompass the entire creation and becomes “the perfect pattern of creation.” Such a relationship that commences with belief and develops through divine knowledge, deepening with love and attaining eternity through passion, is a sort of reply we give to what God, the All-Truth, seeks in us. Thanks to such a relationship God’s presence is always felt free from any limitations of quality or quantity in the course of which an infinite bliss flutters about constantly. Except for such a horizon of delight which turns thousands of souls proceeding on the line extending from all prophets and saints, as well as – irrespective of any differences in considerations – such heroes of love like Musset, Pascal, St. Augustine, and Jeans into moths to the flame; a manifest chain of calamities are Pharaoh-like tyranny and vanity, Nimrod-like decadence and deviance, delirium and insanity, lack of vision and utter dejection that befog humanity’s atmosphere of thought, invade their hearts with doldrums, and even turn their lives into a void within a void. Contrary to the former group’s use of this world as a spiral of human perfection and turning celestial, the latter, by indulging in the darkness they bred within their own souls, sentenced themselves to eternal death.

Those who are open to spiritual life from the very beginning or those who have waken up for such a horizon after a surprise favor from God – no matter if their paths at times intersect with murky darkness – lead their lives as one with light and chase light for a whole lifetime. Just in that way, their every distress is the outset of a new expansion and each suffering is the travails of a new birth.

Almost all respites across the globe have always been nurtured by hardships and developed on the bosom of oppressions. Each period of love and enthusiasm has materialized throughout an episodic span of suffering and tribulation. Just like Greek philosophy gained its perfection through love and ordeal in the valleys of reflection and inquisitiveness, the Renaissance movement too developed after nurtured by love of truth and ardor for research. The inner dimension of the cycle of other historical recurrences in the same extent is yet another topic entitled to special consideration…

In the realm of the faithful, ardor for eternity, love for truth, systematic reflection and inquisitiveness experienced a phase of eruption to an extent out of bounds and either directly or indirectly radiated the world for centuries. How we wished the continuance of such a golden age! How sad it is that time, in consequence of countless reasons and throughout subsequent periods, has revealed unpredictably agonizing interpretations against our favor. In the present era we are in need of superhuman efforts to imbue the flow of time with our own colors. Not only shall we live in utter misery until the time we display such an endeavor, put forward our genuine character and aptitude by means of sufferance and anguish, and crochet our lacework of thought and life in accordance to these; neither does it seem possible to form a moral movement which is nurtured by a unique array of faithful life, art or science. Just like individuals devoid of love and divine knowledge, the nations experiencing the same deficiency are also doomed to collapse and disintegrate.

Individuals or societies, who are sealed against metaphysical thought and without profundity in essence, one day, after losing their entire vital dynamics altogether, get strewn and scattered around just like autumn leaves. In such a condition, cultural movements stagnate, slowly the society, with the young and the old, with its numerous walks of life, grows tired and educational institutions succumb to formalism. Words of thought and learning lose their real essence and context, then as a consequence everything becomes a means of conceit and airs for the administrators of the ill-fated educational institutions. Conversely, in Ancient Greece, across the Islamic world (especially in the fourth century following its advent), and during the Renaissance years in the West, those stunning developments had always sprouted in the condition of countless pangs; were nurtured by the love for truth and passion for divine knowledge; depicted through arts and technology, then were entrusted to history by way of reconciling them with the societies’ spiritual and essential values.

For the last one or two centuries a major part of the world has been experiencing complete loss of sight, severe spiritual infirmity, and arrhythmia in hearts. The condition is such that eyes can see nothing, ears cannot hear a sound, and consciences cannot make their voices heard amidst the din of those who seek everything in material. In such a world science is blind, religion is lame, art is paralyzed, government is incoherent and is caught in the web of oppositions and overthrows. Politics is linked to interests and acclaims, people of science are in pursuit of medals and awards, young generations are light-headed, carefree and in delirium, the mighty are locked in on despotism and tyranny—in the face of all these things the masses moan under misery and humiliation. In such a society there may be many people who read, think, do research, and dream of arts. However, among them only a very few rise against various privations, each making a retreat to the depths of their hearts and strive to explore their spiritual strength. On the other hand, there are innumerable individuals, each of whom follow a different idol and are in vigil of a different expectation; those who are disrespectful to knowledge, insensible for morals, superficial on the passion for truth and extremely unfaithful to upholding their own values. Curious enough, in such a society the ever-despised and disdained popular crowds display through their voices discourses and traits, a more coherent stance than a group of insincere elites whose minds are as disorderly as their hearts and whose emotions are as inconsistent as their thoughts.

Seemingly, we need nothing else but the “hearts of fire” who will deliver us from such an extent of misery and indolence, and make us hear the voices of our own souls. It seems that until the time each of these sincere hearts – by means of erupting streams of lava from their magma-like bosoms – will form everywhere new avenues for our society and channel us towards the horizon of our fortune; we will always suffer from the disadvantages of our indolence. We will undergo stifling anguish around the clock and will never be able to get on our feet again. On these days, as people turn to metaphysics and spiritualism, we wish from God to bestow vigor on our willpower and radiance on our horizons.

Allah’s Apostle said, “There was an Israeli man called Juraij, while he was praying, his mother came and called him, but he did not respond to her call. He said (to himself) whether he should continue the prayer or reply to his mother. She came to him the second time and called him and said, “O Allah! Do not let him die until he sees the faces of prostitutes.” Juraij used to live in a hermitage. A woman said that she would entice Juraij, so she went to him and presented herself (for an evil act) but he refused. She then went to a shepherd and allowed him to commit an illegal sexual intercourse with her and later she gave birth to a boy. She alleged that the baby was from Juraij. The people went to Juraij and broke down his hermitage, pulled him out of it and abused him. He performed ablution and offered the prayer, then he went to the male (baby) and asked him; “O boy! Who is your father?” The baby replied that his father was the shepherd. The people said that they would build for him a hermitage of gold but Juraij asked them to make it of mud only.”

We are today more powerful than yesterday. There is no doubt that in being more powerful tomorrow than today if our unity and union get richer. We never abandon our hope from the Allah’s mercy and never will do. Our union will be the voice of all of the Muslims in the world especially in the field of decision mechanism.

However, these problems can not be solved by the external interferences. There is no need to try to find out the solutions at the outside. Import formulas can not be the cure of our problems. Because; the external based revolution call can not gain forever legality inside. We have to look for a revolution stems from our roots.

The Union of NGOs of the Islamic World (UNIW) has no relationship with any kind of political faction or power focal and never will be. Also, It will never be the voice of any illegal power. We are the voice of Aceh, Kashmir, Chechen. Moro, Palestine and Baghdad. We are the voice of Syria, Hejaz, Egypt, and Bosnia…
Our civilization is like a sun that can not be put out by blowing and it is a like a morning that can not be a night by closing your eyes. The one who closes his eyes will make night to himself. We must realize especially the one point that our first duty today is the unity and corporation of the Islam. As a result of this consultation in every field. We can never neglect this primary duty for any reason and never postpone. If we believe ourselves, no power can stop us in the way we believe. If we know where we are, no power can confuse us. If we do not let any discord seed to turn green, no power can stop us from seeing the realizations of our dreams.”
The concepts like non-profit organizations, which is newly realized by the people of this century, are not new for us. This civilized society is the legacy to us from Medina and “the happiness century”. The best example for the civilized man is our dear Prophet (ASW) and the best example for the civilized society is the Companions of the Prophet Muhammad. Did not they show us the best examples of self-sacrificing, union and cooperation?” Then he explained the purpose of the union in this way: this union is a platform which will cause to show humans the basics of the civilized life like the” happiness century” by getting power from each other and completing our lacking parts. Unity is the voice of the Islamic world and the unity is our soul and identity.
Existence reason of this unity is again us and our culture.. We have a message for whole world. We will say that observe these incidents that are shaped by the games of society engineers beyond the curtains this time from our perspective. They will the voice of this culture which does not only prohibits killing innocent people but also prohibits killing civil people in the wars. They also need the deepness and the heat of these messages.
Power forces of the understanding of the civilization can not establish the real civil society. Isn’t it clear that if there is no spirit then there are self- seekers and hypocrisies? On the contrary, Sprit of Medina has voluntaries and virtues. It has the will of the Allah. As sprit of Medina develops the hearts, it makes societies happy and peaceful by the help of the voluntary people. We are supposed to show this sprit to world as the representatives of the “happiness century”. The core of the real civil society is this sprit.

We’re forbidden to marry four classes of women we’re related to by ‘Sihriyyaf (relatives of our partner which, become our relatives at marriage). These classes, Hurmat-i Musaaharah, are as follows: Mother-in-laws: Regardless of the partners having been in zifaaf or not, the son in law is haram for the brides mother from the moment of the nikaah.

Step mothers: The partners having been in zifaaf or not, the wives are haraam for the groom’s father and grandfather. Step daughters: Daughters and granddaughters of the women from her old partner is again haram. However, for it to be haram, the husband must have been in zifaaf with his wife or have touched her with passion. If on the other hand, the wife passes away or the couple split up before this happens, it is then not haram to do nikah with, (marry) the step-daughter.

Even if it means that the man has been in halvat-i sahiha with his wife. (Halvat-i Sahiha occurs when a man and woman are alone, without the disturbance of a third person and when they are somewhere that no-one else can see them.
Brides (daughter-in-laws/ granddaughter-in-laws): It is haram for a man to marry his son or his grandson’s wife, (it doesn’t matter if they’ve been in zifaaf or not).

The person who does not accept and believe in Allah has to accept all the other things as his god and worship them but the one who believes in the owner of the universe and just worships Him, in contrast, is safe from worshipping any other things. Understanding that all the creatures are servants bestowed to him by Allah for His mercy’s sake, he ascends to the position of
The Caliph of the World.

With an example, I want to explain the fact which was stated in the following sentence of the First Word: “Take the name of the Pre-Eternal Ruler and Post-Eternal Lord of this desert!” namely believe in Allah and conform to His orders and restrictions. With this Faith “be saved from begging before the whole universe and trembling before every event”.

If a human does not have faith in Allah and only worship to Him, he has to become a slave and servant of all the creatures. And a beggar before all the creatures he benefits from. As we are Muslim, thanks to Allah, we may not completely understand this fact. However, when we look at those who do not accept Allah and worship Him we will clearly see their condition.
I want to tell my conversation with an Indian merchant about this subject that I made in Ankara in the office of a businessman. This man was graduated from two different universities. With the help of an interpreter, we had the following conversation.
“Could I ask a question to you not to contempt just out of desire to learn?” I asked Him.
“Sure” he said.
“Why do you worship cow?” I asked.
“We worship cow because we benefit from its milk, meat and lots of other products. In exchange for these benefits we should worship them.” he replied.
“We use the products of sheep, too.” I continued.
“We have to worship sheep, no doubt. Even we have to worship the earth and all the creatures on it from the air we breathe to the plants, animals, sun, etc, because we benefit from all of them. In accordance with our benefit we have to worship them.” he explained.
Indeed, he was trying to say: “You go to a market and buy all sorts of products you want and you have to pay for as many products as you buy. In the same way, we came to the divine market which is called the world, and we make use of it and the things in it. Certainly, as a payment we have to worship as much as we benefit from them.”
However, he did not take into account the fact that when buying products in a market we do not pay to products themselves but to the owner of the market. Even though he knew that the market has an owner, he could not think and understand that this Market of Earth has an owner, too.
I gave an example that he could understand.
“We are using this room now. Do you think we prepared the room for ourselves before coming here?” I asked
He said “No.”.
“So, do you think the material and the furniture in the room knew that we would come here and gathered the necessary things and prepared the room for us? And do these materials have the power and consciousness to do this work?” I continued.
“No, never.” he said.
“They are not aware of this work let alone having the necessary consciousness and power to do this work. As we did not prepare this room and the materials in it can not achieve it. So, how this room was provided with furniture and it could be completely suitable for us? This reality means that this room has an owner and was prepared by Him and given to our service. We used the room and its furniture. Shall we thank the room and its furniture or is it essential for us to show our gratitude to the owner who prepared it for us? If we do not recognize, believe in and thank its owner, but thank room and the furniture in it, for our very ingratitude we cannot hope to get such a gift again and we will deserve punishment that the owner will give us as a result of our fault. Just the same as this example, our world is like a room. All the furniture in it is for us to use. We did not prepare this world before coming to world. Since these things are possible to occur just through boundless power, wisdom and knowledge, it is impossible that this world and the creatures in it know us and come together to prepare the world for our needs. The elements and creatures constituting our world are helpless and unconscious. It is impossible to think that they did all these things. Therefore, our world has an owner and creator who is All Powerful, Perfectly Wise, Knower of All and All Beneficent. Besides creating us, he also created the earth with everything on it and gave it to our service because of our needs. So, do you think one deserves the torments of the hell if he worships these creatures because of their benefits to him and not accept, worship and be servant of the Creator of the Universe and even deny the existence of Him and be ungrateful to Him?
“The one who does not accept and believe in Allah has to accept all the other things as his god and worship them but the one who believes in the owner of the universe and just worships for Him, in contrast, is safe from worshipping any other things. Understanding that all the creatures are servants bestowed to him by Allah for His mercy’s sake, he ascends to the position of Caliph of the World.”
When I gave this explanation, the Indian man became despondent, had a puzzled expression on his face and waited awhile without uttering a word. He changed the subject and spoke about commercial matters. From the condition of this man, I understand how glorious religion Islam is and by making us servants of only one god, it saves us from worshipping and being the slave of everything from cow to the sun and the moon and it provides the honour that the human beings deserve. And I thanked Allah so many times. When the sun rises, a reflection and a copy having all the features of it appears on all the mirrors, pieces of glass, water bubbles and all the transparent objects which are in front of the sun. The person who does not recognize the real sun in the sky have to admit that in each of those transparent objects is a real sun which is 1.306.000 times bigger than the earth and 149,6 million km deep in the mirrors. This is impossible for many reasons, no doubt. In the same way, the person who does not believe in and worship Allah who created and made all the things with His Divine Attributes have to admit all creatures as his god and worship them. However, the one who believes in All the Beneficent and worships Him gets rid of believing and worshipping all the creatures. I thank Allah so much for the gift of Faith He bestowed upon us. Peace be upon the last prophet Muhammad who conveyed the Islam to us.

‘Şüphesiz Allah sizin üzerinizde her şeyi görüp gözetendir’2 ayetinde beyan edilen ihsan anlayışıyla beslenmezse uzun ömürlü olmaz.

Resulullah (s.a.v.) buyurdular ki: “Allaha karşı olabildiğince hayalı davranınız.

Kalp Allah’a imanla hayat bulup canlanırsa onda haya da artar.İşte haya yaşamımızdan sıyrılıp uçarsa insanı kimse tutamaz.

…( Mevlana Celaleddin Rumi)

Byzantium Caesar Heraclius, said to Dihye, who presented him a letter from our prophet (saw), inviting him to Islam,
“Let Allah (swt) make you attain his mercy! Wallahi, I know well that your master is the prophet that Allah (swt) has sent for mankind.

If I wasn’t scared for my life of the Romans, I would persist on him and help him!” He then sent it to the Byzantium patriarch, Uskuf Dagatir, and told him, “Explain your problem to your master Rasulullah! Wallahi, he is a greater person than me among the Romans.

His word is more valid than mine! Look to see what he is going to say!” Our prophet wrote a letter that was to be given to Dagatir, with the following: “Greetings to the ones who came to believe in Islam! There is no doubt that the son of Mary, Isa, is the soul and word that Allah (swt) dropped into the pure hearted and morally complete Meryam. I believe in Allah (swt) and everything that Allah (swt) has lowered down to us, what Allah (swt) endowed to Ibrahim, Ismail, Ishak, Yakub… and all of the prophets. We would not separate anyone of them from the other, we believe in every one of them. We are Muslims that succumb to Allah! Greetings to the ones who have found the right path!”

Dihye went to Dagatir and invited him to Islam. Dagatir said; “Wallahi your master is the prophet that Allah (swt) has sent! We recognise his qualities; we have found his name written in our books!”

Dagatir used to give advice and council the Christians every Sundays. On a couple of Sundays he used his illness as an excuse to not go into the church. The Nasranis sent out news to Dagatir saying, “either he is going to come out among us, or we will go next to him! We aren’t pleased with his matter of conduct since this Arab came!” Dagatir sent Dihye away by saying “send my greetings to your master (Rasulullah). Let him know that I bear witness that there is no god but Allah (swt) (swt), that Muhammad is the servant and messenger of Allah (swt), that Isa is the servant of Allah (swt) and is the soul & the word that Allah (swt) dropped into the clean and virtuous Meryam!” He took off the black garment he had on him and wore a white one.

He took his baton into his hand went next to the gathered Romans at the church and said “Oh Romans! A letter came from the prophet of Allah (swt). In his letter he invited us to the great Allah (swt). I bear witness that there is no god but Allah (swt)! And Ahmed is his slave and messenger!” As soon as he said this, all of the Romans attacked him and beat him until he became a shaheed!”

One woman, in order to find a solution to a problem came to Rasulullah (saw). As she was leaving, Hz Aisha (r.anha) said

“O Rasulullah! What a short woman!”

Rasulullah (saw) said:

“O Aisha! Do not slander.”

Hz. Aisha said

“O Rasulullah! I only said something that she has.”

To which Rasulullah (saw) replied:

“Yes, that is why I said do not slander. If you said something that she didn’t have then I would have said calumny.”

Tevekkul is to trust Allah (swt).

It is not to rely on your talent, wealth or strength as these are helpless. As Allah (swt) has power over objects and is able to destroy these reasons and create new reasons which cannot be explained.

We should stick to these reasons; however one must trust Allah (swt) with his full heart. The reasons do not have strength for an end result. A reason becomes a reason with Allah (swt) permission and creation. Allah (swt) is the only creator. Allah (swt) can create without a reason.

However, to give a reason for his creation is his Sunnah and tradition. For example He (swt) would not give a child to an unmarried person. Although He (swt) has the power to do so. This is how Adam (as) and Havva (ra) were created. There are many people who marry few times, and won’t have kids.

Also there are many people who are talented and strong but they would not be able to reach their goals as their strength would disappear. This shows that it is compulsory to only trust, thank and worship Allah (swt).

Is it surprising how people are unable to trust Allah (swt) for their daily duties. There are people who stop working and say they trust Allah (swt). Although Allah (swt) had urged to trust him on the day-to-day duties, one must also carry on working for the hereafter.
People are doing the opposite. They say they need worldly possessions, so they work to make a lot of profit. They say Allah (swt) is Almighty and become lazy in preparing themselves to the life after death.

If one trusts Allah (swt) in their day-to-day life and gives their priority to worship, Allah (swt) would provide him with the necessary things. He (swt) will pit richness in their hearts and they would see themselves wealthy. On the other hand if one works day and night to make money or to come to a status, if they do not think about the afterlife, then they would in a distraught and an unorganised state.

There are many ayahs in the Qur’an that instrcut us about ethics and principles in the most perfect way. The Qur’an was practised in the best way through the Prophet Muhammed (saw).

The Qur’an demnstrated the importance of duty tohumans as well as protecting rights and demonstrated where the greatest blessings are to be found. This extensiveness of the morals and principles cannot be found anywhere else. Without any doubt the Qur’an is the most informative. Is there anywhere else where such rules rules can be found?

“Surely Allah (swt) ordered you to be justly in a proper way, to be kind, to be generous to relatives. Allah (swt) tells us to keep away from dubious actions; Action against Shari’ah and from excessiveness. Allah (swt) tells us to listen, to udnerstand and to keep this in mind”

What could be more beneficial such as in the Ayah: Anaf 199:

Take the way of rightenousness and forgiveness, order good deeds and turn your face away from ignorance.

In order to understand the purpose of life you should read this Ayah and think about Kiyame:36:

Does the human being think that he can regulate everything alone

In order to warn the importance of keeping, ones word and how wrong it is to tell lies is demonstrated through the following Ayat.

In order to warn the importance of keeping ones word and how wrong it is to tell lies is demonstrated through the following Ayat.

O you believers, why do you promise that what you cannot keep as this as dislikeable in the sight of Allah (swt)

The Holy Qur’an contains many more ethical rules and advices.

The Qur’an and Tewafuq

May Allah1 bestow His Mercy and Blessings upon His Beloved Messenger Muhammad (ASW)–Commander of the both the world at hand and that of the Hereafter; The Beloved, sent as a mercy to all realms of existence, illuminating an otherwise dark cosmos with the Light he has brought.

The Messenger of Allah (ASW2) has, in many instances, declared the importance of both learning how to read the Qur’an and teaching it to others:

“The most virtuous worship of my community is the recitation of the Qur’an.”3

“Teach your children three things: Love of the Messenger of Allah (ASW), love of the Family of the Messenger of Allah (ASW), and the recitation of the Qur’an.”4

“Give your eyes their share of worship.” The Companions (RA5) asked, “O Messenger of Allah! What is the share of the eyes?” He replied, “To look upon and within the Pages (of the Qur’an,) reflect upon that which is Within, and receive admonition from Its subtleties.”6

“Look upon and within the Qur’an continuously.”7

In the book entitled “The Qur’an’s Merits,” writes, “Those seeking knowledge (of the sciences) of the past and future should explore the Qur’an. The Qur’an’s greatest treasures of knowledge underlie The Names and Attributes of Allah. Most people can only comprehend facets (of the Qur’an) which are compatible with their own sense of familiarity in comprehension. They are unable to fathom Its depths (of meaning).”

Ebu Musa’l-Eş’ari (RA), based on his study of the Sayings of the Messenger of Allah (ASW), has said, “I would feel ashamed unless I look at the Qur’an at least once a day.”

En-Nawawi (RA) quoting Ibn-u Ebi Davud (RA) says, “Throughout my studies, I have not come across any objection among the earliest scholars of Islam as to the ruling that reciting the Qur’an while looking at its text is more valuable than reciting it out of memory.”

One famous saying is: “The Qur’an was revealed in Mecca, recited in Egypt, and written in Turkey.” This saying emphasizes the fact that the Qur’an has been recited best in Egypt and handwritten best in Turkey. As if proving the accuracy of this saying, Ahmed Husrev Altınbaşak Efendi8 (RA) had handwritten a very special copy of the Qur’an which had not been achieved before. It has a beautiful, easily-read calligraphy, and a special miraculous style that inspires Its readers to say, “Maashallah, Barakallah.”9 This special characteristic is called “Tewafuq.”

Ahmed Husrev Altınbaşak (RA) was not a professional calligrapher, but rather, a devoted student and successor of Hazret10 Bediuzzaman Said Nursi (RA), who was an eminent scholar of Islam and the Qur’an. Ahmed Husrev was the closest companion of Hazret Bediuzzaman and was named by him as his successor. Ahmed Husrev Efendi was a hero of Islam who opposed the destruction of the exalted values of Muslims, defended and saved the tenets of Islam, coped with the greatest pains, and sacrificed all worldly pleasures while successfully extinguishing the inferno destroying the faith of Muslims.

1 Allah is the name of the Creator of all currently extant realms of existence and those of the Hereafter.

2 ASW: “Aleyhissalatu Wasselam” meaning “May the Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon him.”

3 Feyd’ul-kadir, 2/44.

4 ibid, 1/225.

5 R.A.: Radiallahu anhu, May Allah be pleased with him.

6 Umdet’ül-Kari, 9/336.

7 Ibid, , 9/336.

8 Efendi is a title of respect in Islamic ethics.

9 Maashallah: “What wonders Allah has willed!” ; Barakallah: “What a Blessing of Allah!”

10 Hazret is a title given to highly respected men of learning in Islamic ethics.

- The First: This is the level of one who is negligent and wrongs his soul. He is the one who falls short in performing wudû’ properly, performing the prayer on time and within its specified limits, and in fulfilling its essential pillars.

- The Second: This is the level of one who guards his habit of offering his prayers on time and within their specified limits, who fulfils their essential pillars and performs his wudû’ with care. However, his striving (in achieving the above) is wasted due to disturbances in his thoughts during prayer that distract him and turn his attention to other preoccupations and concerns.

-The Third: This is the level of one who guards his prayers within the specified limits, fulfils their essential pillars and strives within himself to repel the disturbances in his thoughts and extraneous concerns. He is busy struggling against his enemy (Satan) so that Satan does not steal from the prayer. Because of this, he is engaged in (both) prayer and struggle (jihad).

- The Fourth: This is the level of one who carries out the prayer, completing and perfecting its due rights and essential pillars, who performs it within its specified limits and with his heart fully engrossed in safeguarding its rights and specified limits, so that nothing of his prayer is wasted. His whole concern is directed towards its performance, its completion and its perfection – as it should be. His heart is immersed in the prayer and in servitude to his Lord, the Exalted.

- The Fifth: This is the level of one who carries out the prayer like the one mentioned above. However, on top of this, he has taken and placed his heart in front of his Lord, looking towards Him with his heart in anticipation, filled with His love and His might, as if he sees and witnesses Allah. The misgivings, thoughts and preoccupations have vanished and the veil between him and his Lord is lifted. The difference between this person and others with respect to the prayer is greater than the distance between the heavens and the Earth. This person is busy with his Lord, delighted with Him.

The people whose performance of prayer is at the first level will be punished, those at the second will be held to account, those at the third will have their sins and shortcomings expiated, those at the forth fourth will be rewarded, and those at the fifth will be close to their Lord, because they will receive the portion of the one who makes his prayer the delight and pleasure of his eye. Whoever makes his prayer the delight and pleasure of his eye will have the nearness of his Lord made the delight and pleasure of his eye in the Hereafter. He will also be made a pleasure to the eye in this world, since whoever makes Allah the pleasure of his eye in this world, every other eye will become delighted and pleased with him.

(Ibn Qayyim al Jawziyyah)

It is Sunnah to use miswak before and after sleep. Ibni Abbas (r.a) had spent the night in the presence of Rasulullah (saw_. He informed us of our Prophet’s usage of sewak and his performance of wuzu before and after sleep. To sleep upon the right towards kiblah is mustehabb. The most appropriate way to sleep is to lay your palm beneath your cheek and recite the name of Allah till you fall asleep. Hz. Aisha (r.a) narrated as follows:

“Every night while going into bed, our Prophet (saw) always brought his hands together, blew into it and read the surahs of Fatiha and Nas. He would then wipe his body 3 times with the best of his ability, starting from his head, his face and then the rest of his body.”

Our Prophet (saw) declares:

“When the last two ayahs of the surah of Bakaara (Amenerrasulu) are read every night, those two ayahs are utterly sufficient for the reader.”

A brief analysis of Sultan Abdulaziz

Sultan Abdulaziz Khan was a sultan of extreme respect towards our Prophet (saw). Whenever he received a letter from Madinah, he always replenished his ablution and said “These contain the dusts of Madinah” while kissing and holding it to his forehead before giving it to his chief secretary to read.

One day while ill in bed a request letter had arrived from the mujaavirs of Madinah (individuals who spend their time worshipping in Haremi Shareef). The Sultan’s immediate response was: “Help me stand up immediately! I want to listen to the requests of Haremeyn standing up. The requests of Rasulullah’s neighbours cannot be listened to while stretching my legs!”
